What is the safest way to stretch your quad muscles. Most them seem to risk arching or twisting the back etc?
Depending on your flexibility, the safest & easiest way to stretch your quads without spinal distortion is to lay on your back with one leg straight and one knee up. Slowly bring your knee up leg into your chest and hold that leg, take a breath and pull that leg into your chest as far as your flexibility allows. As with all stretches, hold 20-30 seconds, release and change sides.
If you have more flexiblity, you can do a side quad stretch. This is a great video explaining how to keep your back from swaying or being distorted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AP7J-foKtPw
